‘Tis the season to be jolly (and ready for the new year). It is that time of the year again when family members gather around the table despite their hectic schedules and dig out all the embarrassing childhood memories to laugh at it together.
It is the time when couples hold hands and promise each other another year of bliss and happiness, without remembering the fight they just had over which restaurant to dine in. It is the time where heartbreaks (temporarily) end and fireworks start to light up the sky, giving it a glow it has long craved for. And what about you? How has your 2016 been? Are you pumped up for the coming 2017?
No, let’s not talk about “new year new me” or “new year resolutions” because we all know you secretly write down the same resolutions each year. (Busted!) Let’s talk a little bit about health and a little bit about life, for what is life when there isn’t health? Here’s 10 (nanny) advice you might need to get through this year and be ready for the new year feeling like you have fireworks in you. After all, who doesn’t want to start fresh?
Where to Start?
What better way to start your new year by clearing out your old stuff? Rummaging through your wardrobe and cleaning up all the little corners of your room is sort of like a treasure hunt game. You find something memorable or sentimental and stop all the cleaning process to stare at it for 20 minutes and wonder whether you should keep it or ditch it. Anyway, this step might seem unnecessary but believe it or not, it does make a difference. A clean and tidy area naturally lifts up your mood. You can even donate your clothes and toys to the poor or even make money from the secondhand clothes you sell online!
Getting fit for New Year’s Day? It’s a yes from us! Of course, weeks of working out before new year does not instantly make you a Dwayne Johnson or a Jennifer Lopez. As the saying goes, Rome was not built in a day. However, one thing about hitting the gym is, exercise makes your body produce more endorphins which indirectly put you in a happier mood. All the sweat and tears are definitely worth the time, and who knows, fate might even bring you your Mr or Mrs. Right in the gym.
Maybe it’s time to sign up for the yoga class you’ve been telling yourself to join since last year. Put effort into the things that intrigue you, let your passion burn wild, let your dreams soar high. Laziness is just another excuse for not pushing yourself harder. This new year is meant for improving yourself from any aspect by picking up new skills or learning more about yourself, and eventually, you will attract the same type of people around you.
To some, getting ready for the new year equals to getting ready for the year-end party. Thus, alcoholic drinks are unavoidable. We all know the harmful effects of alcohol, especially when it is a long term consumption. (In case you are wondering, check out alcoholic liver disease.) It’s no good drinking to the point you black out for nobody is responsible for the things happened afterward. Oh, and studies have shown that alcohol actually increases sexual drive but decreases sexual performance. Think about it!
Do not overwork and overwhelm yourself. There’s always time for a break. It is understandable that the workload is increased much more than usual during this season and everyone seems to be very engaged in their job and tend to forget about the time. Take some time off to breathe and notice the beauty around you, trust me, it’s everywhere in every corner.
Is this a good time to talk about diet? Yes, of course. Any time is a good time to be aware of your diet and your health. Eat more whole food like vegetables, fruits, lean meats, whole grains and less of preservatives and artificial ingredients. You might be surprised by the change happened to you in time. Eat fresh, stay fresh.
Leave behind negative stuff!
Say hello to goodbye! There are so many things and burdens to be left behind following the end of this year (and every year). People tend to carry along all the unnecessary feelings and thoughts together with them everywhere they go. But you are not Santa, you don’t have to carry them along. Set yourself free by saying goodbye to the ones who betrayed you, to the words that hurt you, to all the tough times of 2016 and bad memories. Let the new year bring a new you and a happy and healthy one at that!
Annual health check? It’s about time. “Health is wealth”, remember, not “wealth is wealth”.
You might have heard this a lot from your mom or grandma but once again, do drink more water to replenish the sweat and tears you spent fighting like a warrior all this while. It is easy to forget how much of fluid we lose each day but bear in mind that our body loses water through skin evaporation, sweat, urine, stool, and breathing. Now, where’s your water bottle?
Life is beautiful
Fall in love. Fall in love with music, art, dancing in the dark, the glistening of the stars, the smell of flowers, the feeling of adrenaline that takes over your whole body and suffocates your lungs with joy. Fall in love with the little things that make you feel alive. Fall in love with life.
